Processing Data for Use in LiDAR Viewer

Welcome to the Processing LiDAR data for visualization section.

This section explains how to process LiDAR data (x, y, z, i) through the LidarPreprocessor and convert it into a folder with index and point files applicable to the LiDAR Viewer.


On the IQ Station

1. The source directory for LidarPreprocessor is: $ cd ~ /workspace/LidarViewer - 2.5/bin

2. The command to run LidarPreprocessor is (single line of command): $ ./LidarPreprocessor - np <number of points> - header <number of header lines> - o <output file> -c <R> <G> <B> <input file parameter> <input files>

3. After running the preprocessor a new directory will appear "<output file>.LIDAR" that contains two files: 1.Points & 2.Index

4. To Test the processed data try the following: Start the Daemon Device, then from the folder /home/demo/workspace/LidarViewer-2.5 use the command line bin/LidarViewer -rootSection 3DTV ../"<output file>.LIDAR"


Supported files include .txt (Text Files), .bin (Binary Files), .asc (ASCII Files), .las (Standardized binary format), .oct (File format from LidarViewer 1.x)

The IQ (Inexpensive Immersive Interactive Interface) Station allows the user to visualize their model in 3D. Researchers and modelers from a wide range of disciplines can benefit from the IQ Station's ability to immerse users in complex datasets. A user manipulates their 3D model with the use of a Wii remote wearing 3D glasses while physical body movements are tracked by cameras.
